A Case of Congenital Duodenal Atresia Diagnosed by Prenatal Ultrasonography




Abstract
Because of its safety, ultrasound is widely used during pregnancy to detect fetal abnormalities. With improved ultrasound equipment, imaging of a greater number of fetal abnormalities has become possible.
Congenital duodenal atresia is a relatively rare lesion, occurring in one of 6,000 births and results in high mortality during the neonatal period. The following factors have significant influence on prognosis in congenital duodenal atresia:
prematurity, combined abnormalities and nutrition.
A case of congenital duodenal atresia diagnosed by ultrasonography prenatally in Soonchunhyang university hospital at September 1995. We present a case of congenital duodenal atresia diagnosed by ultrasonography at 25 weeks gestational age.
